AMY ANDERSON Female Asian American Motorcycle Riding, Singer, Piano Player Comedienne
Don't let the name fool you! Amy Anderson has been described as "a skinny Margaret Cho" and "a heterosexual, Asian Ellen". Amy would describe herself as "a funny American girl who happened to be born in Korea and adopted by Swedish parents in suburban Minnesota". Amy Anderson is a true one-of-a-kind on the comedy scene and her act will remind you to never judge a book by it's cover. Amy Anderson says, "I'm never what people expect. The fact that I'm an Asian American female and I ride a motorcycle, have a white family and have never given a manicure… well, that just blows peoples' minds. Being a comedian is the cherry on the sundae."
Long before Amy Anderson graced the stage of a comedy club she was performing as a musician. A singer and pianist since the age of two and also an accomplished guitarist, Amy eventually earned her B.A. in classical music from the prestigious Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.
Ultimately, Amy Anderson decided music was not her calling and hearkened back to the advice of her first grade teacher, Mrs. Nickel: "Amy, you should become a comedian… now go to the principal's office." After a lengthy stint in the principal's office, and a couple years working as a temp, a waitress, a dog walker, a luggage salesperson, a boarding school dorm mother, a boy choir manager and a behavior modification specialist for autistic adults, she decided to check out the Minnesota comedy scene. Amy Anderson spent six years working in Minneapolis/St Paul as a comedian, theatre and commercial actor, sketch writer and improv teacher before fleeing to sunny L.A.
In less than three years on the West coast, Amy Anderson has established herself as one of the hottest up-and-coming comedians in the country. She was a finalist in the NBC/Laugh Factory Latino and Asian American Open Mic Competition and CA's Funniest Female Competition where she won 4th place… that's right, 4th place. Amy Anderson tours clubs and colleges throughout the US and in Hollywood, she is a regular at The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory and The Improv, where she produces and performs in her own stand up showcase, ChopShtick Comedy.
Amy has appeared on National Lampoon's Funny Money on the Game Show Network, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, SiTV's Latino Laugh Festival and VH1's A2Z. Amy Anderson is currently pitching a sit com based loosely on her life and family and her newest production is an all-female comedy tour called The Broad Coalition. Watch for the "Broads" in your town soon!
