DAVID SPADE Host of The Showbiz Show
Nominated for a 1999 Emmy Award for his memorable role as Dennis Finch, the wise-cracking, power-hungry assistant on “Just Shoot Me,” David Spade was previously best known for his five-year stint as a cast member of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” Nominated for a Golden Globe in 1999 and 2000, and an American Comedy Award in 1999, for his work on “Just Shoot Me”, David Spade’s film career also continues to grow.
Last year David Spade joined the cast of the popular ABC comedy “8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.” Spade brings his unique brand of comedy to this already established sitcom, making it a ratings hit. In the show’s second season, Spade’s character is even more of a staple in the family making him one of ABC’s huge comedy stars. “8 Simple Rules” airs as a part of the Friday line-up on ABC.
This year, David Spade created his own Comedy Central show, which he will executive produce and write along with pal Hugh Fink (former “SNL” writer). The show is a ½ hour comedy spoof on Hollywood, a la Spade’s famed “Saturday Night Live” sketch ‘Hollywood Minute’. He has a series of huge guest stars already lined up to appear on the show and Comedy Central is posturing it to be a huge hit for next winter. The show will premiere in this January (2005).
David Spade also lends his familiar voice and flair for comedy to the movie RACING STRIPES for Warner Brothers. He and Steve Harvey play two horse flies that happen to be brothers. Their collective conversations provide this touching family film with a little comic relief. Whoopie Goldberg and Dustin Hoffman also lend their voices to the film, which comes out this January.
David Spade was last seen starring in Paramount’s DICKIE ROBERTS: FORMER CHILD STAR, which he co-wrote with Fred Wolf. Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company produced the film, which enjoyed a #1 opening weekend slot at the box office. In it David Spade plays a struggling actor who hasn’t seen the light of fame since puberty. He fixates on a movie role that will bring his career back to life, but in order to get it, he has to re-live his childhood. He proceeds to rent a family in order to learn how to be a normal kid. DICKIE ROBERTS has the same smart, dry comedy as all of David Spade’s movies, but also has an incredible heartwarming effect as you watch him grow with and learn from his “rented” brother and sister.
