EMCEES, MASTER OF CEREMONIES, MC’S

A great emcee is the "glue" of the event. He/she makes sure the transitions from speaker to speaker or format happens smoothly. The word emcee originated from the Catholic Church. The Master of Ceremonies position is a functionary of the Papal Court responsible for the operation of gracefully refined and dignified rituals. The need for an emcee is the same whether you’re in the Papal Court or need an emcee to host your business meeting or awards ceremony. A great emcee keeps your program moving. He/she can be the difference between half your group walking out of a long awards banquet, presentation or seminar or asking for more. Just like the Oscars needs a Billy Crystal, your next event needs a strong emcee to hold the audience and provide comic relief when things start to drag. Also, a professional emcee can open your event in an entertaining way that will instantly focus the audience on the stage. The introduction of speakers and presenters that can be awkward can become shining moments in the hands of a great. Rather than rattling off stock jokes, our emcees take the time to do research about your organization, management, your industry and your competition and then relate their remarks to your audience.

Being a great comedian does not mean he/she will make a great emcee. Being a great emcee is a skill set all in itself. Many comedians change their act very little over the years. As mentioned above, homework is involved to be able to be a great emcee. Many don't want to do the extra work and other comedians don't have the ability to "wing it" or "go with the flow." When you're an emcee you have to have the ability to deal with all the curves thrown at you.

A recipe for disaster is when an organization chooses to have one of its own run a show or an event. Just because one of your own is funny, it does not mean he has the qualification to emcee your event. Your executives are in their present position due to their experience. The same should be considered when hiring an emcee. When you need dental work you go to an experienced dentist, you need heart surgery you go to an experienced cardiovascular surgeon. The same holds true when you need a great emcee!

I have always been amazed by many meeting planners who are responsible for the coordination of a multi-million dollar conference who will go to the ends of the earth to save $500.00 on the selection of the emcee.

Comediansusa.com represents the best, most experienced emcees in the country such as impressionist Jim Gossett, musical comedian Gary Jenkins, observational comedian Steve Bruner, Mark Cordes and actor/comedian Kevin Pollak to name a few.
