KATE CLINTON
Attention America: your wake-up call for the '90's is here and her name is Kate Clinton! This versatile comic has something to say about everything: her political material is as fresh as the daily news, her savvy send-ups of modern family relationships strike a chord with all audiences and her perspective on life as a gay person is as illuminating as it is entertaining. Always an openly lesbian comic - once not the greatest of career moves - Kate Clinton works this seeming limitation with an energy that accepts no bounds.
After debuting her last one-woman show, "Out Is In" to sold-out crowds in Los Angeles, Kate Clinton moved it to New York for a held-over 3-month run off-Broadway. The Los Angeles Times noted, "Kate Clinton is the lesbian you want to take home to meet your parents... She's so far out of the closet, so natural with her sexual identity, that a homophobe would beg her to spend the night. She's astute and - above all -amusing. Not liking Kate Clinton would be impossible - even by the Joint Chiefs of Staff." In New York, "Out Is In" was held over three times off-Broadway and had the New York Times reviewer "in tears from laughing so hard."
February 1995, saw an all-new Kate Clinton show making its debut in Los Angeles. Titled "Impure Thoughts", it's an evening "dedicated" to Joycelyn Elders. Kate Clinton performed several numbers from her recent tour with the Mighty Morphin' Power Lesbians road show. Her rendition of "Is That a Hunk of Plutonium in your Pocket?" in full Arianna Huffington drag is comedy you can dance to.
Still radically chic after all these "15 minutes," Kate Clinton has appeared on "Arsenio Hall", Comedy Central, "Good Morning, America", "Nightline" CNN, C-Span, "Entertainment Tonight", TV Food Network, FX and PBS. Additional credits include hosting "In The Life", a televised gay news/variety show, collaborating on WGBH's acclaimed summer series, "The World According To Us"; and a staged reading of Tony Award-winner Tony Kushner's newest play, "SLAVS!", with Olympia Dukakis, Tracey Ullman and Madeline Kahn at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York.
Kate Clinton's humor is as universal as her appeal. Possessing a sharply satirical wit and political slant that demonstrates a courage to be logical, she once considered changing her name to Hilarity Clinton but now is leaning toward changing her name to Katie Elders. A consummate family entertainer, Kate Clinton began performing her comedy in 1981.
