KATE RIGG Culture Vulture & Comic Impresaria
Culture vulture, comic impresaria and juilliard acting graduate Kate Rigg is the creator of cult hits "Kate's Chink-o-rama: featuring the chink-o-rama dancers" and "Birth of a nASiAN".
She was raised in urban Canada by a pack of mixed messages and spent 3 years at the University of Melbourne Australia as soon as she was old enough to apply for a passport. She has won various awards for writing and performance including the Melbourne Comedy Fest Award, The University of Melbourne Experimental Award, Grants from the Australia Council the Canada Council the Toronto Arts Council, The Juilliard Interarts Ward, and a few others she can no longer remember the name of. Her play The Phoenix Rides a Skateboard was produced by Theater Direct Canada, and is published by Schillingford Press, Her play Sinta of Jakarta was published by Prism Press, and was a finalist in the Singapore Rep's writing competition and semi finalist in NYTW's Van Lier Fellowship, and MTC's writing residence.
Her work as lyricist slash librettist slash book writer with composer Lance Horne has seen her work produced and or workshopped at The Juilliard School, The Clarke Studio Theater, The O'Neill Center's National Musical Theater Conference, Steinway Hall, and others.
She has been seen on "NBC Late Friday", The FOX pilot "Kings of Comedy Primetime", "Law and Order", "Oz", "Law and Order Criminal Intent", "STAR TV", CTV's "Comedy Now", The upcoming PBS documentary "Race is the Place", also on PBS "Colorvision" and as various smart looking asian chicks filling out the demographic curve in commercials.
New York Stage appearances include "Dogeaters" at the Public Theater, "The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told" at NYTW, and she recently was seen off-Broadway in the "Vagina monologues" two seconds before it closed. Her collaboration with trip hop violinist Lyris Hung, "Slanty Eyed Mama", has recently returned from a tour of Australia Canada and the West Coast.
She is regularly asked to host freaky events and strange competitions like The Sing Along Sound of Music Costume Competition, Drag pageants, Underwear fashion shows, and interpretive dance-a-thons. Kate continues to perform in Kate's Chink-O-Rama and continues to spread the funky urban asian word on standup mic's all over the country. turns into a kind of military drill sargeant with no sense of humor. She is attracted to shiny objects and enjoys giving unsolicited feng shui advice to her peers. She is a closet angst poet and sometimes can't stop writing rhyming couplets. She enjoys burlesque and any form of entertainment that involved choreography.
She is misunderstood by her parents on a regular basis.
