The Freddy Krueger of Comedy
The Amazing Johnathan, proclaimed by the press as "The Freddy Krueger of Comedy, " is fast becoming knows as one of the most original and bizarre acts to emerge from this era. His fast paced, razor wit and tornado-like approach to magic has made him a legend throughout the United States, England and Australia. The Amazing Johnathan has starred in his own half hour special for Comedy Central entitled LOUNGE LIZARD as well as in two NBC specials: WORLD's WILDEST MAGICIANS and WORLD's GREATEST MAGIC II.
The Amazing Johnathan should be instantly recogniamazing johnathan form his record number of appearances on ARSENIO HALL SHOW, FOX's COMIC STRIP LIVE (unprecedented 24 appearances), HBO's YOUNG COMEDIANS SPECIAL, FIVE SHOWTIME SPECIALS and LATE NIGHT with DAVID LETTERMEN where he was the only comic magician hip enough to appear on the show. Additionally, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT has profiled Johnathan twice.
Despite making regular guest appearances on national television, it's the "live" shows The Amazing Johnathan thrives on, where he is constantly performing around the world. ROLLING STONE magazine dubbed him, "One of the top road comics in the country." Johnathan has literally destroyed audiences (and stages) with his cross-between Alice Cooper and Steve Martin style. On top of the side-splitting humor, The Amazing Johnathan's show often becomes shocking and horrific. His antics include pulling off one's arm or the dismemberment of someone in the audience. He combines his magic with originally designed special effects that make audience members hide their heads under the nearest table. It's this unique combination of humor and horror that makes for a roller coaster ride of fun.
The Amazing Johnathan's fans range in age from eight to eighty, and as diverse as Kevin Costner to Robert "Freddy Krueger" Englund, who asked for some helpful tips on how to scare an audience. However, his biggest fan turned out to be President Reagan who invited Johnathan to perform with Jerry Seinfeld and Yakoff Smirnoff at the "1986 Statue of Liberty Birthday Celebration." This command performance was a great honor, a great show and proof there's no accounting for taste.
Another fan of Johnathan's happens to be Merv Griffin. In 1990, Johnathan was spotted by Griffin who was scouting for fresh new talent to breathe some life into a long-running revue show in his Atlantic City casino Resorts International. Johnathan replaced Phyllis Diller as the "headliner" and became so popular in the show that Merv decided to create a game show to star The Amazing Johnathan. The mastermind behind two of the biggest game shows in television history, together with Johnathan, created RUCKUS, which ran for 65 episodes on NBC-N.Y.
