TIM CAVANAGH
To hear him speak today, it's hard to imagine that speaker/comedian Tim Cavanagh did not utter a single word until he was 18 months old! With over 250 nightclub, corporate, and college performances last year, to say that he's making up for lost time is an understatement.
Tim's unique approach to comedy can no doubt be traced back to those days of his early childhood. His father worked in a gift shop, and would come home with jokes like:
Knock Knock.
Who's there?
Figurine.
Figurine who?
Figurine in your sales tax, that'll be $37.18.
Tim proved to be an inventive child. When he was six years old, he found out this friend Becky got a dollar from the Tooth Fairy for each of her teeth, while he got just a quarter. So he started selling his teeth to Becky for fifty cents, and everybody made a little extra money.
As a grown-up, Tim has entertained a wide variety of audiences. His clean and upbeat comedy has made him a favorite with corporate, club, and campus audiences alike. From Catch a Rising Star in Las Vegas to the National Association of Tax Practitioners in Corpus Christi, from the University of Connecticut to Mayo Clinic, Tim's show has been very well-received, indeed.
Tim has performed for over 200 corporate groups over the last several years. He is a Professional Member of the National Speakers Association (a fact that has surprised and delighted his childhood pediatrician). What Tim brings to the corporate world is a customized comedy experience that really hits home. Tim does his homework: He learns as much as he can about the nature of the audience, company, and/or industry he's performing for, and then writes comedy material for them. When he combines this tailored material with his funny songs, unique prizes, and audience interaction, the result is a hands-on, custom-made, unforgettably fun experience.
While comedy has been Tim's favorite job, it hasn't been his only job. After receiving a BA in Philosophy from Loyola University of Chicago, Tim taught religion at an all-girls' Catholic high school for three years. After leaving the classroom, he collected some impressive comedy credentials. He has appeared on a prime-time ABC-TV comedy special with Dudley Moore, and has been seen on Showtime and Comedy Central. His funny songs have been featured on the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento radio show. He has shared the stage with the likes of Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, and Brett Butler, to name just a few.
Chicago Magazine calls Tim "a wonderful original whose songs poke fun at yet embrace people - a real relief from the sexist ploys many stand-ups believe they must engage in..." In Pittsburgh reports that Cavanagh "uses brilliant word-play in stories and songs..."
Praise has poured in from the corporate market. A representative from Perkin Elmer in Minnesota wrote, "I have never had so many favorable comments from a function before. We were so impressed with how much of the technology you mastered... you are truly amazing." A letter from GE Medical Systems said, "It's one thing to have a comedian that tells generic jokes, but its quite another to tailor them directly to the audience. That really gave the dinner party a personal touch... " A letter from Xerox in Chicago put it simply: "Nobody does it better! ...you were clearly the highlight of the three days."
